Based in the northwest of England, driftbox is an anonymous alliance of musicians. Drawing on a wealth of experience in the creative arena, their music explores a range of genres, from musique concrète to triphop, jazz to downtempo, acousmatic to ambient. Always relying on strong rhythmical elements and inventive use of sampling, their music wanders through unconventional modes and unusual instrumentation, whilst their lyrics examine themes of subjugation, intolerance and injustice. Their latest release, ‘memory blocks’, on their own Crying Boy label, was described as a “bittersweet slice of triphop” by BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Tom Robinson’s Fresh On The Net. Sound Magazine declared “it doesn’t matter what style of music you are interested in, this band fits all of that through the ears”. The band are currently in the studio working on material to be released later this year.
